Business Supplies specialist Thomas Stoner Supplies has provided Newsome High School with a cash boost towards the schools’ participation in the recent world-wide Rock Challenge event.
Our £350 donation went towards enhancing the students’ costumes and set designs.
The Rock Challenge is an annual performing arts competition for schools and colleges, all rising to the challenge to be the best that they can avoiding substance misuse. It communicates health and social education messages to teenagers in a positive and supportive environment.
The event, which originally brought to the UK in 1996, invites performing arts students across the country between the ages of 11 and 18 to create an eight-minute dance routine that showcases their personality and inner performer.
Sarah Hinchcliffe, Head of Dance at Newsome High School, says: “Many of our students have a passion for dancing, but have never performed on a professional stage or been given the opportunity to compete in national competitions, so Rock Challenge provides them with a fantastic platform to showcase their talents.
“Year on year our students take to the stage and dance their hearts out, but without the support of businesses like Thomas Stoner Supplies, we simply couldn’t afford to participate. The donation really does make a difference.”
Sigita Jurgeleviciene Marketing Manager at Thomas Stoner Supplies, adds: “Supporting local schools is extremely important for us, so when we heard Newsome High School were looking for support, we were more than happy to help.
“We’re delighted to have contributed towards the young performers taking part in such an exciting and inspirational competition. The Rock Challenge gives pupils the opportunity to express their creative and imaginative side but more importantly it educates them on the dangers of drug abuse.”
Sarah concludes: “The Rock Challenge really does open doors for our students and increases their confidence and enthusiasm for healthy, fun activities. On behalf of the students and teachers at Newsome High School, I would like to say a massive thank you to Thomas Stoner Supplies for their support.”
Around 70 students will be taking part in the school’s entry with the competition taking place on Friday 9 March at Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham.
